DR. KARNIKA SETH
Dr. Karnika Seth is an internationally renowned Cyberlaw Expert and practising Advocate in the Supreme Court of India with over 23 years of experience in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber law & Cybersecurity. Dr. Seth is the Founder of Seth Associates, an established law firm specialising in Information Technology laws and Corporate laws Practice in India. She is the Chairperson of Lex Cyberia, a specialised division of Cyberlaws Practice in Seth Associates.
She is Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Information Technology and the Ministry of Defence, GOI. Her work has significantly contributed to strengthening the regulatory and enforcement framework of cyberlaws in India. She is also appointed as Legal counsel to National Internet Exchange of India and is an empanelled Senior counsel for TCIL.
She is the appointed Country Chair-Artificial Intelligence & Cybersecurity for G100, a global group of women thought leaders who recently drafted the proposed Artificial Intelligence Act for India. She advised the Government of India on the deliberations held on UN Convention on Cybercrimes and submitted her recommendations on Digital India Act, and Personal Digital Data Protection Act,2023. Dr. Seth acted as an Expert to the World Bank on a study on women rights laws in India and recently tabled her views on Digital surveillance at the India-EU deliberations at ESIWA ORF forum. She has been empanelled as Member of the working group of ICANN formed to design the policy framework impacting global domain registration services.
She is also the Founder of Foundation for Institutional Reform & Education, a not for profit working on online child & women safety and imparting training in cyberlaws to law enforcement bodies in India. She is part of international think tanks on online safety and has been actively associated with UNESCO, UNICEF, ICMEC in its cyberawareness activities in India.
Dr. Seth is Honorary Professor, Amity University and is appointed Professor of Practice by the Vivekanand Institute of Professional Studies. She is Visiting faculty to Judicial and Police Academies in India. She has also been consulted by UGC, IGNOU, NCERT,National law University, for formulation of cyberlaw education courses in India.
She is an also an accredited Arbitrator in the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London and WIPO, Geneva and is Fellow of Indian Council of Arbitration.
She has made 100+ literary contributions including 16 books on Cyberlaws and is a speaker in tech conferences, print & electronic media and television. On International Women’s day her book, ‘Women Rights Against cybercrimes’ was released by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, GOI authored in support of the G-20 Mission. Dr. Seth has actively advocated adoption of virtual courts in India and drafted the e-filing manual to support the E-courts Mission project of the Supreme court of India . She also authored a legal toolkit, Child Victims of Cybercrime for National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in 2018. For her book Computers, Internet and New Technology laws, she received the Law day Award in 2012.Her book, Protection of children on Internet, discusses laws protecting children online and best practices to prevent cybercrimes.She received the Digital Empowerment Award for this literary contribution in 2015.
Dr. Seth has been recognised as India’s most influential cyberwarrior by Dynamic Ciso group.Dr. Seth received the Constitution day Award from the Chief Justice of India in 2023, Platinum Excellence Amrit Award 2022,the Virangana Samman 2022 , G 100’s Exceptional Women of Excellence Award, Great Indian Women Award 2021, National Gaurav Award in 2017, the Digital Empowerment Award in 2015.
She completed her graduate degree in law from Delhi University and holds a Masters in Law from King’s college London and specialised in computer security from Harvard University in 2020.
